  "IMAGE OF THE BOOK" All-Russian Book Illustration CoMPETITIOn

The “Image of the Book” All-Russian Book Illustration Competition is organized by the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications (Rospechat) and Book Drawing Section of the Moscow Union of Artists.

The competition is aimed at finding new talented works of book drawing, supporting professional illustrators, including young ones, and prolongation of wonderful traditions in Russian book illustration art. Artists-illustrators, publishers and publishing organizations, professional newspapers and magazines as well as creative unions are able to nominate candidates for the competition. The works are accepted for the competition between May 25^th and August 1^st of this year. Illustrations and all necessary materials are to be forwarded to Department for Periodicals, Book Publishing and Printing (Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications), marked as «For “Image of the Book” Competition» (5 Strastnoy bulv., Moscow 127994, tel. +7 (495) 629-92-26, 629-08-04, 629-07-25), е -mail address:   arkhipova.a@gmail.com.  

The competition has the following nominations:

1.       Best Illustrations in Fiction

Illustrations for Russian and world fiction (prose, poetry, drama) of various epochs – folklore, classics and contemporary authors.

2.       Best Illustrations in Literature for Children and Teenagers

Illustrations in fiction for children and young people (prose, poetry, drama) of various epochs – folklore, classics and contemporary authors.

3.       Best Illustrations in Non-Fiction

Illustrations for scientific and cognitive, educational books and other non-fiction publications.

4.       Book Design

Best concepts in design of a book or a series of books as well as most interesting, original and beautiful design of a book cover.

5.       Author’s Book

Best artists as authors of an entire project: an idea, a text and book illustrations.

6.       New Names in Book Illustration

The best young artist (not older than 35 years).

7.       “Phenomenon” (Grand Prix)

The best work which follows the traditions of Russian book art, namely: it must be a work of high-quality graphic art and an example of high professional mastership, a sharp image and deep exposition of a literary work.

Illustrations are to be presented by artists-illustrators, publishers and publishing companies in:

-    a book publication or a dummy-layout

-       a manuscript (an original illustration)

-       a xerocopy of an original work

-       a photo of an original work

-       an e-version sent by e-mail or presented on a digital carrier (a scanned original work or a computerized illustration)

 Illustrations (publications) nominated for the contest are to be accompanied with annotations and an illustrator’s creative record. Publications and illustrations, except originals, sent to the contest are neither paid nor returned.

Artists, the Competition winners in each nomination, are rewarded with Diplomas and prizes, nominees get Certificates of Honor. The Grand Presentation of the Awards to Winners of the All-Russian Book Illustration Competition “Image of the Book” will take place during the Moscow International Book Fair.
